My work explores the complex relationship with the land we inhabit. I’m particularly drawn to the narratives of the underserved migrant farm-working communities in the Valley. I‘ve witnessed their hard work firsthand, even as they endure the realities of the current hostile sociopolitical atmosphere and the extreme environmental conditions caused by climate change. Through my paintings, I aim to connect these challenges, highlighting how their work is vital to all of us. My artistic process weaves together careful observation deeply held memories, and imaginative interpretation. This synthesis manifests visually through the fragmented geometric shapes that characterize my compositions. The recurring vertical lines function as symbolic portals to the past, inviting contemplation of history and heritage. My vibrant color palette conveys the resilience, energy, and upliftment I witness in farm-working communities despite their challenges. The recurring motifs of sunrise and sunset serve as potent visual metaphors for the eternal cycle of life and death that defines agricultural existence. The constant rhythm of planting, growth, harvest, and renewal that shapes both the land and those who work it.
