I explore our global interconnectedness and confront systems of violence and oppression by presenting them as surreal pseudo-collages. Scenes are painted in intense vibrant color, filled with symbols from nature to represent the spectrum of human experience. I use self-portraiture often as a launch point for conversation that confronts implicit bias and explicit discrimination that has resulted in a long history of European and American Imperialism. I collect data from my life and current events and formulate works that beg the viewer to consider social problems, with the main goal to inspire hope and reflect a deep love of self, family, and community. My most recent work airs the dirty laundry of being raised in a Chicano household, dominated by machismo, and held together by the women that apologized for it.
