A Transect: Due East
Solo Exhibition by Matthew Rangel
with The Luminosity of Stone John Spivey
November 4th – November 27th
Reception: Friday, Nov. 6th, 6 – 8 pm
A Transect: Due East is a solo exhibition of lithographs by Matthew Rangel documenting an artistic and philosophical pilgrimage the artist embarked upon, taking him through the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas and into the highest reaches of the Great Western Divide. Walking east from his hometown of Dinuba, California, Rangel set out on a 200 mile journey of exploration and contemplation on the relationship between humans, the lands we live and work upon, and those places we call “wilderness.”
The Luminosity of Stone is writer/photographer John Spivey’s look at the Kaweah Watershed, inspired by his family’s history of 150 years living and working in this region.
Both exhibitions are being held in conjunction with the Kaweah Land & Arts Festival hosted by the Sequoia Riverlands Trust on the weekend of November 6th through 8th. Planned activities include the Artists’ Reception at Arts Visalia Friday evening, November 6th, The Land & Arts Field Day at Kaweah Oaks Preserve on Saturday, November 7th, the Land & Arts Symposium at College of the Sequoias, Saturday evening, November 7th, and individual artist and author presentations at various venues in the community to be announced.
