Andrea Guay: Finding My Way
January 5 – January 28, 2011
Reception: Friday, Januray 7th, 6-8pm
In Finding My Place, Andrea Guay presents over twenty new works. While her past works were often landscapes created in the plein-air manner, this new series of paintings represent a an increasingly abstract direction in Guay’s work, one where the emphasis is truly on the artist’s handling of paint. Through a non-literal use of color and the soft focus of her images, Guay creates the sense that these images are visual manifestations of places found only in memory. In her writings, Guay describes the work as “a visual journey to the secret places, compelling places where childhood imaginations run wild.”
Guay has shown her work in Baltimore, Maryland and in Dallas, Texas. She holds a B.A. in Architecture from Wellesley College, which includes a year spent in the New York/Paris program at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture.
