The artists Michael Barnes, Meghan O’Conner, Humberto Saenz, and Matthew Hopson-Walker all make art work that relies on narrative elements in their art for sociopolitical, satirical, or physiological purposes. All of the artists are influenced by narratives and characters found in contemporary entertainment, mythology, or from our childhoods. These works record and document very different and specific times or places of the artists own devising. The work suggests the selfish motives that lurk beneath socially acceptable behavior, and reference the surface qualities and rich graphic aesthetic in the history of storytelling.
Arts Visalia is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from Noon-5:30 p.m. We have created Virtual Gallery Tours that are available at www.artsvisalia.org/virtual-tours, so enjoy the show virtually or in person.
