Jennifer Malone is of the Wukchumni tribe of Tulare County. She has been weaving for approximately 25 years. Taught by her mother Marie Wilcox who was taught by her mom Beatrice Francisco Aranes. Her grandmother and great grandmother on her dad’s side were great basket weavers. Maggie Icho also known as Wahnomkot has baskets at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles. “I love weaving with my mother. She always kept me going. We would sit outside and weave together. It was a relaxing and very good time. I am teaching all these different styles of baskets, hoping to create another teacher to keep this tradition alive.” -Jennifer Malone This exhibition of baskets and gourds is held biennially at Arts Visalia in conjunction with the Baskets and Gourds, Containers of our Culture Workshop. The works of artists and workshop keynote speakers from around the country share their love of basketry, gourd work, and handweaving in this display.
