Intensely interested in collage and assemblage, Raphaele Cohen Bacry recycles and repurposes magazines, wallpaper, and cardboard. Her work comprises sculptures and collages made in isolation in her studio. The sculptures utilize cardboard boxes used to move Bacry’s possessions from her previous studio. Once stripped and its corrugated aspect revealed, this modest material becomes a precious supply, strong yet light. She also developed a series of collages questioning the cycles of life, death, decay, and rebirth. The work is about metamorphosis, transfiguration, renewal, and ultimately redemption.
