January 2019: Dr. Dean Hsu Photography Exhibition
Exhibition runs: January 2 – January 25, 2019
First Friday Opening Reception: January 4, 6-8 pm
Most know Dr. Dean Hsu through Sequoia Regional Cancer Center in Visalia. The medical center was left with his beautiful pictures on the wall after the doctor retired. These pictures contain the many places he’s traveled to over his lifetime, specifically Japan, Germany, Yosemite and local staples such as Three Rivers.
Dr. Hsu started taking pictures in high school, long before he practiced medicine. After his father came to visit from Japan, he gifted Dr. Hsu with an Olympus OM-1 camera and lens. He began developing his skills in photography with the use of this equipment and study of picture’s compositions, placement of light and framing.
Dr. Hsu states, “Growing up in the post WWII era in a war torn country, I have longed for a world of peace and harmony with hope, yet not losing the sight of the disadvantages of a progressive civilization. I see the world in the way Normal Rockwell had portrayed the world in his nostalgic illustrations and paintings reflecting the perfect home and society.”
As a photographer, he’s a bit of a wanderer and captures parts of the world he discovers and finds most interesting. Step into his world when you walk through this exhibition.
