Coyolxauhqui is an exhibition by Madera native Gloria Osuna Perez, which achieved great success in El Paso, Texas and in the Chicano Art Movement. Her work has appeared in a one-woman show in the Clinton White House, in the El Paso Museum of Art, and most recently, 20 years after her death, her widower, Roberto Perezdiaz brought it to the Madera County Arts Council’s Circle Gallery. According to Aztec mythology, Coyolxauhqhi is the Moon goddess. The exhibition consists of Gloria’s interpretation of the Coyolxauhqui wheel, along with ten paintings of women who the artist claims are direct descendants of Coyolxauhqui’s sacrifice.
