Reception: Friday, May 5th, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Artist Talk: Saturday, May 20th, 2:00 p.m.
Arts Visalia is pleased to host a Porterville local artist, painter Joy Collier, with a show entitled “California’s Giant Sequoias: Found Nowhere Else on Earth”. Joy paints in a post-impressionistic style and works from her own original photography and research in her studio. Her large canvasses of our local Sierra’s giant sequoias will fill the gallery space.
Although she has had many careers, Joy has also painted for many years and now favors acrylics as her medium. She states, “The giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) is the world’s largest tree. It grows naturally only in a narrow 160-mile band of mixed conifer forest on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California.” To celebrate these “very special trees”, she presents an “all Sequoia Show featuring some of the most well known trees and groves in Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, plus, a variety of well known National Forest Groves such as the Trail of 100 Giants.”
