Trishelle Jeffery’s desire to share her work more fully in the world contributes to her decision to use printmaking as her primary media. She loves being able to produce multiples, each with their own sense of space and destination. She also loves that each one is hand crafted and precious. This adds to the artwork, implying that the subject matter should be treated as carefully as the object.
In her prints and drawings, she uses the visual language and mechanics of the comic book. This format has a deep-rooted connection with the construction of memory. The page holds a visible array of every moment and is also constructed into a narrative thread. This ability to see a story all at once as well as in order gives the comic book a diaristic quality that lends itself better to autobiography than other mediums.
Using autobiography is the best way for her to show and understand humanity. The human experience, living in a body and loving and being overwhelmed and scared and simply feeling is something we all share. It is all encompassing. That is what life is about. For Trishelle, there is no more important action art can achieve than capturing it.
