Born in 1940 in New Orleans, LA., the art of Martha M. Sterlling began in the San Francisco Bay area while she juggled the duties of raising a family alongside a career as superior court clerk, criminal division, during the eighties and nineties. She received her associate in arts degree at City College of San Francisco in 1988. Her studies in both music and art, amongst noted scholars and teachers at Los Madanos College in Pittsburg California continued after her relocation to the San Joaquin Valley. Later, after completing transfer requirement courses at College of the Sequoias Mrs. Sterling earned awards of recognition from Africana and American Indian Studies Program, The Black Faculty and Staff Association, and College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno in 2007.
Mrs. Sterling has held membership in a number of art-related bodies and has exhibited and sold her artworks throughout the state of California. Her accomplished accumulation of works includes oils on canvas and numerous study drawings and sketches. Mrs. Sterling resides in Tulare County.
