Esperanza Martinez was a Mexican born painter who moved to Los Angeles in 1963 after studying with Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Her detailed images depict an array of Mexican and indigenous life and peoples. The works on display are a part of the collection on loan from Ramona Walker, who was a friend and collector of Esperanza Martinez.
Francisco Alonso creates works in traditional and non-traditional printmaking processes and has used his talents to create an installation in the gallery. This installation recreates the experience of visiting a neighborhood convenience store complete with woodcut register, boombox, and stocked shelves. You won’t want to miss the unique experience.
Arts Visalia is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from Noon-5:30 p.m. We have created Virtual Gallery Tours that are available at www.artsvisalia.org/virtual-tours, so enjoy the show virtually or in person.
