The art of Arturo Martinez is a culmination of music, culture, and ethnicity. His work is inspired by African American artist Romare Bearden that celebrated life, jazz, and people. Like Bearden, Martinez praises his ethnicity and mestizaje without losing sight of the long struggle of the diverse ethnic communities of Mexico.
Arturo is from Veracruz, Mexico with residence in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from Autonomous University of Tamaulipa, Mexico specializing in Social Science Studies. He studied art at INBA, from Tlacotalpan, Veracruz, Mexico. His art pulls from his experience as an immigrant and his familiar and cultural traditions.
